A small plane that had been circling for hours Saturday morning over Tupelo, Mississippi, and surrounding areas landed in a field in Ripley, Mississippi, the FAA said. A source told CNN that the pilot who police say threatened to crash a stolen plane into a Tupelo Walmart is in custody.

"Thankful that the situation has been resolved and no one was hurt," Gov. Tate Reeves tweeted. "Most of all, thank you to the local, state and federal law enforcement agencies who handled this situation with the utmost professionalism."

Tupelo police were notified at 5 a.m. local time when the pilot called 911 making a threat, Tupelo police said.

"Due to the mobility of this type of aircraft, the danger zone is much larger than even Tupelo," police said in a news release Saturday morning.

According to FAA records, it is a Beechcraft C90A twin-engine turboprop aircraft, matching the registration number, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to CNN. The plane was stolen, the source said.

The plane was north of Tupelo around 8:30 a.m. local time, police said in a preliminary update.

A government source familiar with the situation told CNN that the plane later flew over the Holly Springs National Forest.

The Tupelo Walmart store "is currently closed and evacuated," Charles Crowson, Walmart's director of press, told CNN.

"We are working closely with local investigators and referring matters to law enforcement," he added.

The Federal Aviation Administration is "aware of and coordinating with local law enforcement," the agency said in an email to CNN on Saturday morning.

The FBI's Jackson, Mississippi, field office is responding to the incident, the said.
